Music Review: Solange 'A Seat At The Table'

Written by DJ Andre Mack on . Posted in Music Reviews

Y'all think Luke Cage on Netflix is "unapologetically black?" Check out Solange's new album ‘A Seat at The Table’.

I just listened to the entire album from start to finish...nice beats and flow, powerful lyrics, insightful self-awareness and entrepreneurial messages intertwined for the uninformed or those who may have forgotten. I hope her fans are actually listening. This young lady has a ton of soul and a cool respectable sense of being. I would certainly put this album on when I got home from work to recharge my batteries or play it in the office with some headphones. With Raphael Saadiq (Tony Toni Tone) behind the majority of the production, I knew this was going to be a very slick and easy on the ears project. I love it. You know an album is good when it starts over and you hardly notice.

As a deejay, I usually don't have time to check out a complete project from one specific artist as I am always looking for good ‘individual' songs to keep my people dancing. I have been negligent in my listening of entire albums over the last few years. But I know good music and substance and a good message when I hear it. Within the first 10-20 seconds of listening, it just feels good... her album didn't have to grow on me at all. I liked that!

What I won't do is compare it to her sister's project. They swim in 2 different lanes.

I give it 4.5 out of 5 Stars in today's R&B.

DJ Khaled Gives Us Major Keys

Written by Jamaal Harris on . Posted in Music Reviews

Major key alert!!! DJ Khaled is back with his 9th major studio album release. And as expected it's fully star studded with today's hit makers and trendsetters. With everyone from Big Sean, Drake, Chris Brown, Future, Bryson Tiller, Gucci Mane, J.Cole, Travis Scott and many many more.

Khaled even took it a step further and recruited some legendary guest to talk that special cloth talk such as: Nas, Busta Rhymes, Betty wright  and most notably HOV himself Jay-Z, with the hit single 'I Got the Keys'.

In a recent interview Khaled described the story on how he went to great lengths to secure a verse from Jay-Z by purchasing property in New York so that he was closer to him for nearly a year; which eventually transpired into the mogul inking a deal with ROC Nation management.

Nevertheless; "Major Key" is sure to be a summer banger. The 14 track album has all the "Key" ingredients for another chart topper. Don't play yourself play the EP.

Fantasia's "The Definition Of" 5th Album Release

Written by K. Anderson on . Posted in Music Reviews

Fantasia drops her long awaited 5th studio album "The Definition Of" and it is truly worth the wait. Her 11 hit playlist definitely goes inside to what Fantasia has been going through since her last album.

Songs like Lonely Legend, which gives you a Tina Turner esque Mad Max moment. When I Met You talks about her love for her child and how she thanks her ex for allowing her to know what true love through her child. No Time For It sounds like another woman's anthem of getting your paper and grinding and not having time for the gossip. Her debut single Sleeping With The One I Love is the quintessential rock/soul song that even James Brown would be proud of. A few guest appearances by Aloe Blacc (Roller Coasters), Stacy Barthe (Stay Up) and Tye Tribbett (I Made It) coincidentally have a common theme of positive vibes music and lyrics.

You can tell she wanted to try a newer sound this go around and might I say she did that! This is a complete album that you can play from beginning to end. Check out the album on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and a variety of places where this can be purchased. One of her best pieces yet!
